Reference check feedback from Canada must be similar to feedback given in the United States right? Wrong. In a piece we published regarding global rating behavior, Checkster analyzed online survey responses of 26,297 respondents from 8 different countries who were asked to rate over 5,000 workers. The ratings take form of a score between 1 to 7 (1 being the lowest score) answering two questions:
- the probability of rehiring
- the overall performance of a candidate.
While we talked about the US compared to France, another point of interest is seeing the difference in rating behavior between Canada and the US despite sharing a geographical continent.
- The USA is more generous - 70% gave the maximum score for overall performance
- Only 54% of Canadian raters gave a maximum rating for the same question
Think about that next time you make hiring decisions for Canadian or American candidates.
